Iron ore mines ”Ljubija” a.d. Prijedor were founded with the aim of exploiting ore deposits in the area of the municipalities of Prijedor and Sanski Most. The ore-bearing area covers an area of about 1,200 km². The research of the Ljubija metallogenetic area revealed about 347 million tons of geological reserves of iron ores.
Industrial production in the Ljubija metallogenetic area began in 1916, and significant progress in the production of iron ore was achieved in the middle of the 20th century with the introduction of mass exploitation and the construction of plants for the preparation of iron ore.
Iron ore mines ”Ljubija” Prijedor deal with the research and development component, independently and in cooperation with the appropriate institutions and faculties from the country and beyond. Research and development activities are focused onresearch in the ”Ljubija metallogenetic area” and development programs.

Massification of mining production enabled the construction of the Central mining sites, the East mining sites and the Omarska mine, which operated within the framework of the Iron ore mines “Ljubija” as three independent technical-technological units where the surface exploitation and preparation of iron ore took place.

I dream about Ljubija for days, nights, weeks, months, years. That wonderful place painted with the colors of flowers, greenery, interwoven with the yellow color of ore, a stream. The place is a symbol of work, harmony, success in various fields. A place of fun, social and sports activities, games and camaraderie. That place gathered people of nineteen nations in work and order. One single word - Ljubija, and so dear, beautiful, important, beloved in the hearts of those who lived in it, came, passed by, but never forgot it. The words are pouring out in the desire to describe the place we think about, talk about, return in our minds to the wonderful time spent in the small lovely place of our youth, joy, work, companionship and success. To meet a Ljubian means to rejoice, to remember life or another face from Ljubija.
And the miner's spirit with a full parade: a pickaxe, a lamp and a long beard, knocks on the crystal, tears the stone...
